Who is Beam?

Hi! I am Ashley the owner of Beam Creative Designs. I am located in Kingston, ON.

I first started sewing when my son was born almost 10 years ago, mostly making quilts and placemats for my family and friends. I decided to venture outside of my sewing comfort zone and try some simple toiletry bags. My friends and family got quite a few bags with wonky zippers, but in 2023 I felt confident enough to go to my very first market with some simple toiletry bags and purses. I loved talking to people and the excitement they had when buying the bags. From there Beam has continued to grow into more complex bags and many more markets. I work with different fabrics including waxed canvas, cork, cotton/canvas and more recently leather. I spend a lot of time carefully choosing the fabric combinations for each bag and figure if they make me feel happy, hopefully the final product will also make someone smile. I am always looking for a new challenge and continue to develop my sewing skills.

In 2024 I decided to also sell retail fabrics. I carefully select all the fabrics I bring in for retail, and consider whether I would use them myself for bags or quilts. I don’t bring in every collection or item, more what catches my eye. I like to call it a curated selection!
